    Morning rag

Strikes me that the new "light" theme might include rather a lot...

    Any favourites?

    Rag Bhairav?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I thought this was about what newspapers people take?

      Or is it indeed about

and the like? Not sure what the 'new light theme' refers to...

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Thank you. Shobha Gurtu is amazing (and new to me).

Oh, the children's programme? It seems they're to get a new version of Pied Piper, so perhaps the grown-ups can have the mornings back!

Did anyone else hear Lang Lang play the Maple Leaf Rag on Private Passions today? What was he thinking of? All those fancy embellishments ruined a piece that does not need them and is far better played straight.

I did, and while embellishment is not unknown with ragtime, in this instance I agree - another thing: he should play part of the famous theme legato, not the whole thing dotted.

Lang Lang seems keen on decoration and making musical points other pianists eschew, witness his RAH recital CD, not I'm afraid on my must-have list.

Me neither. Too much of a show-off.

Yes, I heard it, and, no, I didn't enjoy it.
