I infer, Eighth, that you feel no sympathy for the man whose wealth declined over the course of last Monday, by $2,380,000,000?

Lutnik is like some Mel Brooks character in a Biblical Epic who lights a fire by rubbing his hands together with glee.....doesn't he (Lutnik) just love being in the limelight....

Perhaps having been at the "aluminum" is turning him into a loony man! The logic of his justification of Trump's "restore America's respect" can quite clearly be answered by saying, if that restoration is built on privileging your own business interests at the expense of fair trading your competitors, don't be surprised when they in their turn turn around and do precisely the same thing. Source for the goose, source for the gander.

The Six Nations tournament is to remain 'free-to-air' for another 4 years, and my Elephants' Ears are in full bloom in my front garden and driveway.

All Greenlandic parties have rebuffed Trump by uniting to declare their permanent independence from the US. Plus the new president of Nato member Canada madeit clear that Canada would not willingly become the 51st state.

What was the man thinking of by suggesting to the Nato secretary general that the West's security interests would be served by the US annexing all or part of other Nato members against their wishes?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

You're implying that 'the man' has a brain with which to think, which I'm not sure is a given.
Maybe as evidenced by this (from the Independent):
Trump has threatened to annex Danish territory Greenland. Now the US is asking Denmark for help with egg shortages.

I was pleased to see a Guardian correspondent (I think it was Jonathan Freedland) state, as I think, that DSJ really does not understand tariffs - which he so roundly promotes; that he thinks them just a tax on the producer country, without any effect on end prices.

... yes, an instructive article -

Addicted to Fox News and outlets even more extreme, the president finds justification for actions disastrous to Americans and the world, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland

It's possible that he has a brain but has mislaid his user's manual.
One thing he has in common with nearly all other politicians is that he clearly believes that it's vital to be seen to be doing something - anything will do.

I seem to remember reading that a 10 year old Oscar Wilde inscribed on the flyleaf of his Bible 'Important if true'.

I always think of this whenever I hear of any pronouncements in The Guardian!

... I think it was Kinglake who said “I dislike churches, and had I my way, I would write in every church, chapel and cathedral only one line: ‘Important if True.’

A Private Eye cartoon of yore showed Oscar Wilde with a policeman, holding a notebook, saying 'Anything you say Mr Wilde will be written down and printed in a book of quotations'.
