September is a time for reflection.
May to September:
Only with hindsight do I see its structure for it has all seemed so sporadic and I'm pretty happy with it actually:
Fully explored the area I grew up in - its walks, scenery and buildings - recognised too that everywhere is a neighbourhood that can be done in around four months.
Visited a couple of places in other parts of the country I hadn't seen, making the list of places I would still like to see even shorter - content with what I have seen.
Assessed the potential for seeing new places abroad - recognized that the list was even shorter than I had thought, given negative social changes in much of Europe.
Reconsidered views about ever returning to places I've enjoyed in the past - largely indifferent now given that some of the earlier experiences would not be bettered.
Undertook some new activities adding to those previously enjoyed throughout life - gliding (height), canoeing on the lake (breadth) - enjoyable temporary diversions.
Sharpened focus from the ground on sky, sea, gardens, animals, space, further rolling back from the urban and community concepts, each also revisited/reassessed.
Accepted lack of chemistry with modern people - across generations, classes, nationalities - and irreconcilable differences with systemic norms and the mass media.
Got back in touch for temporary periods with some of the friends who most mattered - decided and accepted that single, middle aged men do not make new friends.
Obtained family trees to place my family in a broader context while accepting it was the people who I've known in the family who would always have the most meaning.
Essentially brought musical search to its natural conclusion although it ticks on a bit - classical music (height) and world music (breadth), adding to earlier culture.
For the first time ever, I took my garden fully through from early spring to what will be late autumn with considerably more effort and some additional investment.
Became robust in my lifelong view that if there is one thing more irrelevant than intimate relationships it is money; bring on the next financial crash for a better world.
