This is terribly sad news. Cilla was so much part of my 1960s childhood along with the Beatles and the Liverpool Sound and I was pleased to meet her much later (in 1995) to tell her so. There were never any airs and graces about Cilla, she never lost the common touch and one felt instinctively at home with her.

      RIP Cilla Black.

Very much a key part of the Mersey sound - George Martin was a strong influence in her early recordings knowing exactly what she needed to do with her voice. Singing later took second place to her presenting and entertaining and being the Cilla we all knew and loved.
          RIP Cilla.

Lionel Blair made the point about the rich source of musical talent that is Liverpool.
