On a "good" day I probably walk 3-4 miles in under an hour. These days are ones when I don't have much else to do, when the weather is dry, and the ground is dry. However such "good" days are very much outnumbered by the other sort.
How much exercise do you do?

Do you do it for fun?
I went to Halfords today because I want to buy a bike. You can ride along the river Lea from Hackney to Hertfordshire. I've had two bikes nicked and I gave up on the idea about 5 years ago, I want to give it another go. Cheap bike, not so bad if someone nicks it.

But for serious I have started a supervised walking regime. I am supplied with a pedometer and my target for this week is 8000 paces per day. I have not yet worked out how long is a pace, as I have just started the 12 week course. My aim is to see how far I can go with moderate breathlessness ie 3 on a scale 0-10, where 0 is no breathlessness. I should add that I suffer from COPD and I am taking part in an experiment organised by the local hospital.

Using 1 pace = 2.5 ft gives 8000 paces = 20,000 ft = 20,000/5280 = 3.79 miles (to 2 dp).
Currently I am able to do my walk each day on a scale 0-1 (your scale), but that doesn't mean that I feel well, or that I do the walk every day. To induce breathlessness I have to start running. My walk does include a moderately steep hill - which I hadn't noticed when I started this route years ago, but I used to find that upwards section quite tough.
I used to quite like running, though not to the extent of some people I have known.
I hardly ever swim, having learned to swim at a very advanced age, though I did once swim 50 lengths for charity (British Heart Foundation). Barely believable - I still find water scary and would take some persuading to get into a pool, and certainly not if I don't feel well.
I have bicycles, but I don't use them. About 50 years ago I used to do 20 miles a night in around an hour, but then the bike got lost/stolen, and I never had a really good one after that. There's a new bike in the shed - I ought to put it together and use it. I could probably manage that.

If I'd gone round a circular route with my home as a focus I could have cut back home if I felt tired, but I went out approximately radially some distance, and then, of couse, I had no choice but to return - no short cuts.
