No - you have to have children first!

Looking forward to investigating *x*rc*s* when (if?) I reach retirement
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

For the last 20 years, I have done 60-90 minutes of aerobic exercise daily.
I also eat meat rarely, don't salt my food, try to stay away from trans fats.
Therefore the shock of myself and others upon developing extensive Coronary Artery Disease at age 57.
I've been contemplating spending the rest of my days on the couch, wolfing cheeseburgers and fries and guzzling beer, and seeing if I get a better outcome. It wouldn't be a fair study, however, as my wife would kill me before we had a chance to reach any meaningful conclusion.

Inadvisable. After 10 years of exercise abstinence, I discovered myself totally unable to do even a single press-up - the muscles in my upper arms having wasted away.

I have high blood pressure and my doctor advised that I do 3 hours walking per week. As I don't drive this isn't much of a problem. The walk from home to railway station to the office and back again means that I do twice that every week, the return journey being mostly uphill.

Those people who climb into their cars and head for an office desk from which they barely move are stoking up big problems for the future.

A couple of people I know who in middle age took exercise very seriously - to the extent of running marathons in one case - are now both crippled by arthritis and general damage. Too much is as bad as too little, probably worse. My attitude towards it is a bit like that of - was it Biily Butlin? - who said that if he started to feel he needed exercise he would lie down until the feeling went off.

The trouble is that exercise is so boring. The only form of exercise I ever found interesting was ballet, and that does you no good in the long run. However, since I don't drive, I have always walked a lot. Provided I don't put on weight I will leave it at that.

Robert Hutchins, according to a Tee-shirt I own!

                - particularly, I feel, the sort you have to pay for (although housework is boring, too - but at least that leaves a sense of accomplishment once it's done). I love walking and swimming, so keep to those: the weights, floor training and gym machinery I leave to others.

Exercise is great as long as you are healthy enough to do it. I enjoy swimming, running and hill walking in the Lakes and Scotland.
What I find difficult to understand is why people prefer indoor exercise in a so-called gym, with music you can't get away from, stale air and no scenery. Why run on a treadmill (which you have to pay to use) when you can do the same outdoors for nothing?

Shhhh! They'll privatise the air if you give them ideas!

I have never taken exercise deliberately, in the sense of going running because I need to get some exercise to lose some weight, because I have always found that leading a - for me - normally active life gives me quite enough exercise without having to worry about taking more. Two of my hobbies, gardening and wood work, do involve quite a lot of lifting, bending and moving around. I also have to clean the house, go shopping and occasionally even have sex with my elusive but none the less demanding when she appears, lady. All that is quite enough exercise to keep me comfortably underweight. and not go seeking any more.

They have a more liberal attitude in your branch of the Co-Op than does mine.

Those who may have found me on Facebook will know I'm building a Canadian canoe Hopefully, on completion, it will encourage me in even more exercise.

Just back from a very long cycle ride. Victoria Park/Broxbourne return, along the River Lea. I didn't time it, but I must've been out for nearly 4 hours. I think I overdid it.

You mean that it's not already privatised? Gosh! One learns something new every day!
