I didn't quite follow what Dave2002 meant by "Peckham", my idea was one of several buses South Ken to West Brompton , then 30, 40 mins to Waterloo via Clapham Jn. and there are several buses from outside Waterloo to Southwark Street for the "Globe". have you been told to take cushions ?! tfl say that London Overground are not on strike.
Re Peckham one of the routes I found (by train) actually does go via Peckham Rye - and if I'm not too much mistaken that must surely be somewhere near where Del Boy and Rodney lived in Only Fools and Horses.

I've had an update email/message from TFL, the main points are below
Due to the strike, customers are advised to complete their Tube journeys by 18:00 on Wednesday 8 July, and to travel earlier if possible. Tube services are expected to be exceptionally busy between 16:00 and 18:00 on Wednesday and will begin to stop running after this time. There will be no service at all on Thursday 9 July.

RMT, Unite and TSSA members are planning 24-hour strike action on the Tube from 18:30 on Wednesday 8 July. ASLEF drivers are also planning 24-hour strike action on the Tube from 21:30 on Wednesday 8 July. DLR, London Overground and TfL Rail staff are not on strike.

If the strike goes ahead, there will be no Tube service from late afternoon on Wednesday 8 July and no Tube service at all on Thursday 9 July.

Extra bus and river services will run to help Londoners get around and roadworks will be suspended wherever possible but all public transport and roads will be much busier than usual. Allow more time for your journey.

London Overground, DLR, TfL Rail and trams will all operate a normal service but all public transport and roads will be much busier than usual. Allow more time for your journey.

Marshals will help manage demand at taxi ranks at central London National Rail stations.

Customers who are able to change their travel time are strongly advised to travel outside peak hours on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday.

Travel ambassadors and volunteers will be handing out maps at transport hubs in central London and helping Londoners find alternative ways to get around.
Sorry if our Alpen friend is still despairing.

I also believe that trains to the West will be affected by a strike for 48 hours over the next few days. This will affect trains from Paddington - and shouldn't affect Richard.

We wound up hiring two vans for 35 pounds each to ferry us back to So. Ken with the assistance of the Hotel Concierge.
