I just noticed that the forum software hadn't realised that BST had ended, so I forced it. If anybody notices anything untoward, please let me know.

I used to loathe this time of year while I was working. Commuting morning and evening in darkness in usually filthy weather and the corresponding transport issues did not make it a happy time. Now retired however, I find unexpected pleasures to be found in the autumn and winter and am no longer bothered by the clock change."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

It's usually a gloomy miserable day when the hour changes at this time of year, but today is bright blue skies, and quite warm in the sunshine, where I've been sitting reading and listening on my iPod.
I could hear the minster bells (I'm about 2 miles away) as I hung the washing out early this morning.
Not sure I'll feel so cheerful when it gets dark sooner later today.
(That was an interesting sentence to write: it didn't look right to put 'when it gets dark later today', as it will get dark earlier rather than later than it did yesterday!)

In the past I’ve (almost) always enjoyed having the extra daylight in summer (even more so now I’m living in Köln, rather than Melbourne, where I spent most of my first 30 years and where there’s not quite as much variation in the hours of daylight). Now I have three-year-old twins, and am extremely grateful for the extra little bit of daylight when it’s time to get them to kindergarten. (I don’t get to enjoy the late evenings so much but them’s the breaks.)
