    Apple Music

Its here. At last. How did we ever manage without it?

anybody signed up? Binned your rusty old Spotty account ?

Best thing since sliced bread? everybody loves apple, right?

It's got Taylor Swift signed up exclusively, which is great.

Oh, in case you hadn't heard about it, it is subscription only. And apple can trace your every move. but apart from that......

    What does it do?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

      its like spotify.

you can stream music. Elvis Costello albums. That sort of thing. I imagine it has the itunes library, but I'm not certain.
      £15 a month after a 3 month free trial.

no free option such as on Spotty.

It has its own " radio station" too.

Does it offer anything other than "Rock and Roll and other children's music"? What CODECs and data rates does it offer?

I think people are waiting for somebody like you to enlighten them !!

          But since you ask

Arriving June 30, Apple Music is going to try and curate tracks with a human touch. It won’t stream them at the highest possible bitrate, though. Apple has confirmed Apple Music’s streaming bitrate is 256kbps. That’s Apple’s standard playba

Oh, and it has a " huge library of classical music. "

I would certainly expect them to use aac, rather than mp3. But 256kbps does not seems much of a draw. I a happy to stick with QOBUZ, though I do wish they handled more independent and had less restrictive streaming with some of their catalogue. Far too many titles are only available as 30 second samples for streaming.

Spotify uses ogg vorbis, which is supossed to be somewhere around 320 bps. I wrote a thread about spotify early in my medical recovery here so I don't want to be redundant but I think it sounds surprisingly good, especially in my two channel system where I have a MacAir feeding my firewire dac. When I listen to other Internet options with the same setup, usually at 256 bps or less, there is a noticeable decrement. We get the BBC here at 128 (I think--it may be 64) and I find it unlistenable
I have many complaints about the Spotify interface and how it treats Classical. I can only imagine how bad the Apple interface will be, based on our years of using itunes.
Apple is late to the Streaming Party. They will probably try to use thier Corporate Might to subdue their competitors. I for one am hoping they don't succeed.

15 pounds a month is twice what Spotify costs here. That is what Tidal (CD Quality) charges, and I don't know about Quobuz

Not my kind of thing really
But just read (on stalkerbook) a post from a very well known instrumentalist how he was surprised to find almost all of his old recordings there.

The £15 is for a family membership for 6 people across multiple devices. Could be exceptional value for money, in many cases.

it would be if all the old Melodiya catalogue gets reactivated.
                      or is that something else?

a heartwarming thought, all the family gathered round the ipad at Xmas reliving the great days of Soviet music....

But actually, £15 for 6 folks is pretty reasonable,as it goes. I think the techies had some concerns about who could so what with other peoples devices on that deal, but I'm afraid it passed me by completely !!

That's better, but one can also place a Spotify account on multiple devices. My wife's iPhone has my Spotify account as do multiple computers used by other family members.

£9.99 single user with Apple Music, multiple devices. Probably similar to your wife's Spotify account , used by other family members.

There appears to be a three month free trial so I shall certainly give it a whirl.

And I don't care who in Cupertino knows which version of Schumann's 4th I'm listening to, frankly!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Can't fire it up on my gen 1 iPad. Should I be able to?

Does this simply offer the iTunes collection via streaming, or less, or more, or something else?
