Oh pants! I had no idea. That really is a great shame if they go under. How will I be able to maintain my French if that happens?

EDIT: Just checked how much Apple Music is month £9.99 -- That is twice what I am paying for Qobuz. So I guess streaming is now something of the past as far as I'm concerned. Ah well, there's always Radio 3

The only two Solti recordings I would be sorry to lose would be a VHS recording of Bruckner 7 from the Proms 1978 and the early LSO account of Mahler's Resurrection.

I want more than 'interesting' Cloughers!

Someone once said that Solti played Mahler like Brahms but with extra percussion. Hits the nail on the head for me.

... oh, just remembered, his Mahler 8 is very good I think! I kept that too!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Many of his recordings are downright exciting not just interesting and knock spots off your Uncle Bernie's Alison - are you still on a Fox induced high?

Then you would miss out on the Solti/Chicago 5th with the incomparable Bud Herseth trumpet.

Perhaps in my rush to show agreement with Cali I've overstated my aversion to Sir Georg. His Messiah is another cherishable recording. I still could not have him in the same category as Haitink or Tennstedt in the pantheon of great LPO conductors.

Don't worry Alison, none of the above is anywhere near Boult - but Georg beats Bernie - na na na na na!

I certainly would not want to lose Solti's Salome and Elektra, and his Tannhauser is pretty good, making something exciting out of a faintly boring piece.

Tippett's 3rd Symphony is very impressive, and oddly his Schubert 9 with the VPO is excellent, and of course there are the Bartok recordings.

I have just finished a 1.5 hour call with Apple Support re an irritation with Apple Music. I download a fair amount of music to my iPod and listen far out of wifi range occasionally abroad. I was finding that Apple Music eventually refused, literally, to play, demanding I log in to the Mother Ship ... As it had happened today walking around the Metrocentre (large shopping mall on a pit heap) I called in at the Apple Shop and a young man assured me someone would ring me in 5 minutes which they did. That call lasted 20 minutes before I was booked in for another after 17.00 call being the aforementioned 1.5 hours ... The latest diagnosis is that my ICloud music library and my iPod library have moved out of alignment and this has caused the problem ... So the latter has been cleared out and seems to have fixed the problem. But I had to promise that if the problem re-surfaced I had to contact them immediately - excellent customer service and I still love Apple Music BUT still no Reggie Goodall ....

I had the same problem last November. Same solution. I bought the Reginald Goodall CDs a while back

Example - in order to check out Reginald Goodall's ENO Ring - see above - I tried "Reginald Goodall" as a search term. Indeed, there does not appear to be a Ring, though there is Parsifal.

I then followed a trail of other recordings which possibly might feature Reginald Goodall, and came to a collection of British Music - Britten, Berkeley, Rubbra. There are a whole lot of pieces in there which are difficult to identify, and of course since I've not heard most of them, listening doesn't help either. At present I'm listening to a piano concerto Op 55 in G played by Denis Matthews and the BBC SO conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent. I have no idea who it's by - Berkeley or Rubbra, or someone else. I can probably track it with more effort, but it's poor that the tracks don't identify the composer as a minimum. The same applies to many of the other tracks in that collection, as presented in Apple Music. One clue is that the particular movement also has a name "Corymbus".

A bit more of tedious "binging" suggests Rubbra - http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/w/1...rto-in-G-Op-55

There also does not seem to be an easy way to let others know about any particular track or album - maybe there is, but I've not found it yet. In Spotify it's possible to save and share both album links and track links.
Having time in my glorious retirement for such things I contacted Apple Music and after a number of red herrings, including ENO, they pointed me, not unreasonably, at Chandos. They have just replied to say the decision rests with the Peter Moores Foundation who allow only sale not streaming of the Opera in English series .... ????

I just started a 3 month free trial, and feeling a bit lazy after Monday work and a long weekend promming, would be happy to take recommendations for hot new releases to download.
I started with the Pappano Bernstein......
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Do you really need this alongside spotify? Anyway, try the Zimerman/BPO/Rattle Age of Anxiety....
I go back to Rana/Pappano and I admire, but find it harder to love; the Berlin one has the special magic which makes it a classic of the Gramophone...
I think it will still be my Record of the Year at the end of the year...

I only use spotify free, which as you know has its limitations.
The download function is really useful for days when I am working, so a three months free trial seems worth a go.

They are both the same price after the trial, so should be an interesting comparison.
