At a guess (Andrew may know better) - an attack by spambots?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

That being the case, do we, as a matter of idle interest, know when we had the highest genuine readership on here?

Or by members of the Percy Grainger Society, looking for comments on the previous night's two Proms?

Well, if people remember, we had a problem with Chinese spambots a while back but Andrew seems to have done for them. 'Users' seems sometimes to refer to logged in members, sometimes to all readers/lurkers/non-logged-in members.

As far as I can see (if anyone's interested) 28-29 June there were 592 individual 'users' which must include non-members or non-logged-in members, but they would not have all been online at one time. There were 1,964 sessions (so people returned during the day), each session averaged out at 9'41", together 16,602 page views were clocked up, and the 'bounce rate' was 13.24% - very low (bounce rate is how many times someone views the forum and then goes away again after one look = 'not interested'.

Users and posts can fluctuate daily quite wildly. We've never had more than 190 users (April 18 2013), though posts on Dec 24 (!!!) 2013 hit a whopping 705 - I cannot hazard a guess why people were so voluble . We very seldom have fewer than 100 posts, even now, although it seems to have stabilised at 150-200ish per day.

Not sure if 03-08-2011 is March or August, but there were actually 150 users on 8 March, 154 on 3 August. We currently average 110-140ish 'users' per day.
