Very poor show, just as the thread in question had got round to discussing music. Very bad example set. Go and stand in the corner. R3ok beckons as a more civilised, less dictatorial forum, with elected moderators.

...provided that standing in the corner's not a variation on "the classroom seating arrangement proposed earlier" by our esteemèd Cali, peut-être...

I say, let the moderators take the long holiday they deserve. Let the weeds flourish in the garden too. Too much pesticide and shutting off of corners of the demesne suffocates this small quarter.

After all, this is a virtual environment. Turn off all the traffic lights in Britain tomorrow and chaos will ensue. Disable them in this place and no vehicle will crash, one into another. No pedestrian will be struck down.

'But what will the media and the BBC make of our disorderly house?', I hear someone ask.

Well, the BBC don't care, anyway, in all honesty, and the media are only interested in approaching us to get an angle conveniently counter to whatever particular story they happen to be running.

So, make this garden grow, I say. As it will and how it will.

Indeed, Stillhomewardbound. Puts me in mind of the opening paragraph of this, and also, in its way, of this.

            Not necessarily.

Why don’t you start a thread to continue the discussion? That’s what this forum is for. The running of it is not our business, since we make no practical contributions and the administrators have no obligations to the members.

                  ...its (elected) moderators
This forum does not have those.

As you know, Bryn, r3ok has been reduced from a flourishing forum to about no more than a dozen 'regulars' (most of them playing word games) including those who don't like the dictatorial powers exercised by this Forum's "management". The "management" is me and all complaints are complaints against me. Fine, people are free to express them - and discuss them, as they always have done.

But you're wrong. As I explained in reply to your formal complaint, NO ONE can add comments to a thread once it's been closed. Not even a Moderator or Administrator. It has to be reopened again to display the posting buttons. The software did not activate for a matter of seconds before you were already complaining.

And, in general (i.e. not to Bryn in particular): the raison d'être of this forum remains what it's always been. r3ok chose to go along the route of becoming a more general forum, rather than Radio 3 focused, and participation has steadily dwindled (in spite of the fact that to this day we have loyally kept a link posted on the forum homepage). When participation here dwindles to the extent that r3ok has done, this forum will close.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                      That may be true, but

                      that really isn't.

Not perhaps the right moment to protest. Screen grab from a few seconds ago (the trouble here usually begins when people either break the few House Rules we have or suggest changing it to something else):

Fair enough - I never look at that bit.

But there are discussions of a sort that don't quite happen here, and I value them, but I contribute less than I used to because I think I'm being read by too few people to make it worthwhile (such arrogance! As if anyone read my posts anyway, anywhere.)

I suspect the reason for the decline of R3ok has more to do with it not having the online profile that might bring in new members than with how it's moderated.
