The BBC and the Giant Squid

Well this is new.... This morning I received on my mobile phone (aka hand-held computing device) what looks to all intents and purposes like a text message - or more likely WhatsApp message - a little promo for Private Passions. It was sent, it said, by the BBC.

My guess is that, because I use WhatsApp a small amount with a few friends, family members and neighbours, and because WhatsApp is part of Zuckerberg Intergalactic Enterprises, the BBC has picked up a connection between me and it via that database. I am not on FB or any of the other social media.

So the Giant Squid-like tentacles of the Internet have - in this instance - found me. It's a first for me, though I suppose that others who are greater participants in social media will have had similar experiences.

Sadly, so much of what the BBC is offering these days is not so much Giant Squid as Damp Squib.

I'm pleased to say that my Dumbphone (calls and texts only) keeps me safe from such unwanted intrusions.
Michael's guest on Sunday is Neil Hannon, frontman of The Divine Comedy. I've never heard of either, but shall tune in as usual.

True, but I was commenting more on BBC R3 sending out texts as a form of promotion.

Undoubtedly the latest recommendation of some highly paid consultant on how to attract younger listeners

And there was I, thinking texts were somewhat old hat to young persons these days!

I hope to see more than a lot more than ten tackles when the 6 Nations tournament gets under way on Friday evening.
