      What E connects -

      a) a French work underpinned by Berlioz and Mendelssohn
      b) a French work containing a polka
      c) a polka written in the US almost contemporaneous with (b)

          Elephant

          A) In Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals, the Elephant contains quotes from the dance of the sylphs from Berlioz's Damnation of Faust, and the scherzo from Mendelssohn's incidental music to A Midsummer Night's Dream.

          B) Poulenc's L'Histoire de Babar, le petit elephant contains a polka.

          C) Stravinsky composed Circus Polka for a Young Elephant.

Excellent! I was struggling with this one.

There's a character called Felicity in a TV series, of which I'd not heard before, called Greeks and Geeks.
AA is a seasonal feature of the Forum and contributions tend to tail off once we're into the new year, so I'm not sure how much interest there will be if anybody sets a 'G'.

That was meant to be a clue. You are looking for another actor from The Good Life with a name of Greek origin.

                        Barnaby Rudge

The name of a female character from the novel is required

                        Bette Davis

In probably her most highly regarded film nowadays.

F links the three names musically.

... yes, I think it was set up as a Christmas divertissement, running from Advent to Epiphany - I suspect the lucky winner of this round will have almost a year to mature their G clue...

Penelope Keith : now there is an opera Pénélope by Gabriel Fauré...

And Fauré was involved with Emma Bardac :

And Emma Haredale is a character in Barnaby Rudge

Bette Davis starred in All About Eve : Fauré wrote the song-cycle La chanson d'Ève

Might we be talking about Gabriel Fauré?

Fauré is correct. I am looking for three works that contain female names. You have got Eve and Penelope, but are missing the third. It is one of Fauré's best known pieces. Have another look at the female characters in Barnaby Rudge. Sitting comfortably should help.

                                ... ah- then it's Dolly

Thank you for that. (Tho' I did like my Emma diversion)

                                See you all at Advent?
