Are we looking for a bard like Baudelaire or Byron?
Would Gordon B lead to Robert Russell Bennett being born in Kansas City? But he shouldn't begin with B!
How about Virgil Thomson, from Kansas City, of "Lord Byron" opera fame (new to me).
Childe Harold might be Berlioz's Byron.
Wikipedia has "The Bohemian G-yurl and the Unapproachable Pole is a musical burlesque in two acts, with a score by Meyer Lutz to a libretto by Henry James Byron... ... It was a parody of the popular opera The Bohemian Girl composed by Michael William Balfe with a libretto by Alfred Bunn."
I'm floundering.

G Gordon Byron Lord Byron is your man, he of English Bards and Scotch Reviewers among other things.
Berlioz and Balfe have been identified - can you propose some Byronic works?
And indeed Virgil Thomson, native of Kansas City, composer of the opera Lord Byron...

Although LMcD did get Balfe - who was new to me.
And the Burt Bacharach / Shakespeare links could easily fit in to French Frank's NTITRE "No, no: this is the real explanation" (#149)
