In fact, the "double" nature is quite apposite to the original solution.

Well, I got three answers but only one began with M, so the "double" is that (at least) two of them were wrong . In fact probably all three.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Would Dame Edith approve? Or is it all just Façade?

With or without the help of Frans Schwartz?

Yes, the answer is mandolin, featured in Mahler 7, Schoenberg's Serenade and Mike's Tubular Bells. The alternative answer I thought of was "moonlight" (Mahler's Nachtmusik from the 7th, Serenade and Moonlight Shadow by Mike O). The "double" refers to the mandolin's paired strings.

                          Now for N. AuntDaisy?

Excellent M, Tapiola, & thanks for the double explanation.
It might not be until tomorrow...

                              I couldn't resist a little frivolity for N.

Two closely related, alliterative musical comedies, one by Bach, the other not written by Julius. A double cuppa might help.

Might Irving Caesar's 'No, No, Nanette' be one?
