Sorry - my mistake - drop the 'Tony'!
(I'm trying to provide a further clue without actually giving you the answer, but my persistent head cold isn't helping!.)

Yes - a 'Yellow River' is the 3rd 'Y', but the one you're looking for was far from a solo effort.
Peter Maxwell Davies composed the Yellow Cake Revue to voice local objections to a proposal to mine uranium in Orkney.
Mannheim Steamroller's concept album 'Yellowstone - The Music of Nature' features orchestrations of works by several classical composers.

The Yellow River Concerto? A collaboration of Chinese composers.

That's the one! (Based, I recently discovered, on a cantata of the same name).
It looks as though 'Y' is done and dusted - so who's up for a 'Z?.

I'm glad I didn't suggest the Mills Brothers singing Yellow Bird
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thanks for a great puzzle LMcD - it certainly keep me guessing.
I'm listening to Yellow River now & enjoying it.

                          An excruciatingly difficult Y, LMcD!

Anyone have a Z? I have a quick one if no one minds?

I shouldn't think anybody will mind, and some folk might even be secretly relieved! Please go ahead.

"Oh God(ard)!" he muttered angrily, "not Tom Service again". A 3-element musical Z.

One way of avoiding Tom Service, of course, is to nod off .... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
