    As in amass & collect.

    Three homophones - A Quire / A Choir / Acquire.

The R baton passes on to Tapiola...

Thank you. Great follow-up clues, AuntDaisy!

I do have a quick and dirty (and hastily assembled) 3-part R:

Elementally, James Dean and a champion Alsation.

Only the first clue is directly musical.

They were all pretty Rebellious characters?

Jean-Féry Rebel composed Les Elemens, Dean was a rebel without a cause, and Rebel the German Shepherd dog and Champion were joint TV stars in Champion the Wonder Horse.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Right, for S, three not wholly different composers:

                  1) famously began with a lionisation

                  2) not in fact an Englishman, sir!

                  3) more of a publicist, but he knocked out a cantata or two.

Ooh... I have an inkling, but cannot nail down the 3rd element. I am getting the word "saint":

                    1) Saint-Saens begins his Carnival of the Animals with the lions

                    2) Joseph Bologne - Chevalier de Saint-Georges

                    3) ?

Good going. I put the most obvious one first and the least last so that you would have a clue to work on. ('Nother clue: I'd never 'eard of 'im)

                        I'm stumped.
Thought it might an 'Enry, but no joy.

                          Tapiola had the common S.

N-n-no, but if I'd found him first ... He is a Sainte rather than a Saint. The one I had in mind is a bit later.

I don't think Saint-Just would have, but just possibly did Saint-Evremond write any music as well as writing about it??
