Arne? Morley? Tomkins? Obviously not Adès, as he's still with us.

I doubt it was the Tank Engine, that was Ringo and the walrus was Paul!

Tallis it is (having left us bodies of work both in English for Protestant use, and in Latin which would have fitted Catholic use).

Over to someone to set U.

            Shall I do a U?

Need to pop out to the shops - will do it on my return.

This U is a link music box with sax appeal and a birth for rock ‘n’ roll.

U is a place and the three clues related people from there!

The U is Ulverston in Cumbria. Stan Laurel was born there (The Music Box is a Laurel and Hardy film); Jess Gillam (sax appeal) was born there and Bill Haley's mother (Maude Green) came from there (Rock Around the Clock).

I got this yesterday but the way the question was worded confused me!

Victorious in every detail. How about chancing it as the V setter.

The problem is that I really like solving these puzzles, even though I've only recently come upon the thread, but I'm absolute pants at setting them. Moreover, I haven't got the time to do it!

Would really appreciate it if someone else could have a go. Very sorry.

I could set a 'V' after lunch, but if anybody else wants to join the festive fray before then - please go ahead!

May I offer my first? Not too obscure (I see Petrushka taking aim already )

                            A V linking:

                            A childish dilemma
A Russian encounter with the devil
                            Michael's descent into madness, possibly

Ed: 1,2 or 3 clues available if requested!

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Can’t find a link but Russia and Vodka seem to be linked!

Is 2 anything to do with Bulgakov"s 'The Master and the Margarita'?
