This bit: 'OUP said the word had “boomed on social media”, showing how the internet can propel initially fringe language into the mainstream. “This is a story as old as language itself, but stories of linguistic evolution and expansion that used to take years can now take weeks or month,” is akin to what we were discussing on the Sheer Pedantry thread. Words become fashionable, comprehensible, acceptable at a dizzying speed. I still haven't caught up with 'goblin mode' which now sooooo last year.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.Comment

Frankly, I can't see many of these words remaining in the lexicon for long. "Selfie" has entered the language but the others are just modish media references that will seem extremely old hat within a couple of years.Comment

I'm not sure why they included 'unsocial' other than that Johnson notoriously used it ('unsocial distancing') in a sense closer to 'antisocial'. Unsocial itself has been in use since the 18th c. and the OED gives numerous examples.
Perhaps he has created the new meaning of 'sociable non-distancing' though there would probably be less cumbersome alternatives.It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal.
