I'm afraid to say that in the biz in years gone by he did rather have a reputation for being a crashing bore.

They made a tv movie of the Charles/Diana story in which he was Prince Philip and at one point on set between takes CL was holding court, until most crossly rebuffed by an otherwise warm and friendly Mona Washbourne who blurted out, 'Oh, DO shut up!! You know, you really are a VERY BORING MAN!!'

Meanwhile, there was a posse of child actors playing the younger royals who where constantly hissing and baring imaginary fangs behind his back. To their glee he'd round on them severely ... 'Do you mind??!! I haven't played that part in YEARS!!'

A great figure sadly gone nonetheless He had the screen presence to impress a wide range of the public - a 20-something French relative had on their Facebook page yesterday
