    Facebook Recovery Code scam.

I had an email this evening purporting to be from Facebook saying that someone had tried to log in to my Facebook account and providing an 8 digit recovery code for me to click on.

I've heard of this scam but accidentally clicked on a link in the email. In panic, I quickly went on to my FB account to check on 'recent emails' and there it was - a genuine one after all. A worrying scare averted but I've changed my password anyway and a warning to be ultra careful when moving the mouse about!

    Anyone else had this?

No, but I am not on FB.

My wife had a text purporting from Lloyds Bank and saying she was about to go overdrawn. The last four digits of a card number were included in the text. No hyperlinks were included in the message.

My wife does not have and never has had an account with Lloyds.

We went into our one and only (closing at the end of the month) local branch. They could not help and we concluded that the only reasonable explanation is that someone with an account has given the bank the incorrect phone number.

During the enquiry the clerk looked up our address and surname and came up with an email that is one our daughter used - she has never had a bank account with Lloyds either, which is slightly worrying...

...he suggested it was something to do with online electoral roll or something.

Lloyds will have business access to the electoral roll(nothing to do with whether you are a customer or not) as it is used for credit checks, and if your daughter registered online then it might show her email address as well?
