Great actor. If you have time Google his Olivier anecdotes especially the Audition and the canteen encounter . Too scurrilous to be quoted here but extremely funny.
So sad. A wonderful man and an incredible career. I'm just listening to my recording of "Embers" from 2006. He signed my copy of the script when he performed Krapp's in London in 2010.
That Krapp's Last Tape was the last time we saw him. Several other memorable performances include the first time we saw him - Brecht's Life of Galileo at National Theatre in 1980, Pinter's Caretaker in 2000.
Sad that he couldn't do Auden in Bennett's Habit of Art, as originally planned. Richard Griffiths did a great job in his place.
Very sad to see another Dumbledore go - he took on the role from the mighty Richard Harris and comfortably made it his own...not many could have managed that. A wonderful actor.
