Really very sorry to hear this sad news.
I always enjoyed his reminiscences of his working life, as well as his thoughts and good humour about his health struggles.
Condolences to his family.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
Sympathies and commiserations to you and your family, Son of Gamba. This board knows that my father passed away on Thursday May 21st, so I can sympathise with you as to what your going through now. A great loss to your family and to Friends of Radio 3.
RIP Gamba.

I'm really sorry to have to let you all know that my father "gamba" passed away peacefully last Tuesday after another spell of illness in hospital. We all keep expecting him to bounce back as he's done so many times before, but sadly this time and at the age of 92 he wasn't able to. In his later years with decreased mobility he took great enjoyment from this board and conversing with so many like minded people who shared his love of music and life.
His great sense of humour and warmth of personality will be remembered by all those who've had the privilege to meet him and I know many of you will have enjoyed some of his many adventures in life that he's posted on here.
His funeral is to be held at Daldowie Crematorium, Broomhouse, Glasgow G71 7RU on Monday 8th June at 11:00, and his wishes were for any donations to Medecins San Frontieres through www.justgiving.com/Alex-A-Pearce.
Warmest regards, Daniel
Deepest condolences. I've said before that our 'immortality' comes out of the myriad interactions we have had during our lives. So very many people will have been touched by your father's existence (even if they don't realise it) and their lives will all be different because of his.
I've only just read the post and am deeply saddened to learn that Gamba is no longer of this world. His stories of his experiences (how could one forget Alexander Gibson and Gamba as cameraman) were a treat to look forward to but what we will all miss is his love of life and of music. What, I wonder, will he be listening to up above - maybe a Haydn string quartet. RIP
I am really saddened by this news, but neverthelss am very grateful to have been able to participate in some exchanges with your father on this forum. His stories, some of which were posted here, provided great interest and amusement. I hope they will be preserved in some form, either on this forum, or in some other more personal place, which will help you to remember the good things and adventures he had.
My deepest sympathy and comdolences to you at this time.
My heartfelt condolences, Son of Gamba. He will be much missed.
Your dad was a life-enhancing board-member indeed.
We hoped he would be with us for ever.
RIP Gamba
May I also add my condolences to those of our friend Roehre.
We have always enjoyed reading and learning from your dad's posts and he will be sadly missed on these boards.
So sorry to hear the news about your father, Daniel. I recall nodding in gamba's direction when passing through Lenzie on a train on his birthday a couple of years back. I will nod in his direction when next I'm on that train.
