It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

That would make 5 votes for Off, 0 votes for On.

I'd like to comment on that vote, but I can't any more.

You could "Write something". I still find that an odd instruction. If the logic is that you may not be actually replying to a post then that makes a nonsense of the "post reply" button sending you there, as I believe it does?
I suspect the makers of this system would be puzzled by the Pedants' Paradise thread.

Having started this thread 3 or so weeks ago i must say I haven't warmed to the new format - certainly not designed for those who flit between topics nor prefer tight written threads rather that slabs of empty nothings - I don't stay logged in - a default setting as this browser is used for more possibly malevolent sites than this oasis of genteel calm which however seems to have lost much of its previous busyness - thus can't immediately see what is new and finding out is I find tedious.

Sorry to hear that, F_iom. I'm now getting used to the quirks, and also having to click on subject titles rather than what seem more intuitive links. The What's New? view does seem pretty much like the old one. See the thread you want and click on the title to take you to the last post. And this site, at least, should be more secure than the old one.

No quote button here - for comments - unless it's hiding behind my computer. Firefox.

I just popped into my TestAccount account and I see "Quote Flag underneath every single post as I read a thread.

Or if viewing on a phone, click the three dots (ellipsis) at the bottom right of the post you want to quote - this will bring up the "quote" option.

My feelings precisely, and as others have concurred. Many thanks for salvaging this small but learned community.

Funny, I only logged in for the first time yesterday - I hadn't originally realised that I hadn't been logged in, because it was remembering where I was from the previous visit anyway. I wonder why you can't see new posts?

The "What's New" button didn't function initially unless logged in but that was fixed sometime ago so it's possible to do a quick check on general activity, although I agree that the new format does involve rather a lot of wasted space. However I'm prepared to live with that if the forum itself is still available.
