    The new board

well it's great to be back though feels somewhat as though we are now living in a kindergarten - too bright, wasted space and unnecessary photos etc etc - surely we can manage with words rather than the ideograms

You mentioned 'too'bright' in your earlier message but the light and dark reds are the same hex colo(u)rs as on the old board, but there's less of them (eg the useful links boxes were red). I was half way through my reply and then changed tabs and couldn't find the post again. (Elderly person last seen wandering vaguely: if spotted, please contact **** .) Which photos?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Copied from a redundant new topic on techie issues:

I note that while new topics appear with the most recent first, comments within threads are in the opposite order, with the most recent to be found at the bottom of the pile. Please could this be changed so that the most recent is at the top? Also, I note that I am not authorised (as yet?) to view who is online at any given moment. Hopefully, these are mere teething troubles.

I'm glad to see progress being made but I am now stuck as I can't see how to use the new version! How do I reply to a specific post? It can obviously be done as I can see others have done so today, but I am evidently missing something.

Either click on 'Quote' at the bottom of the post to which you wish to reply (if you want to quote the post) or just start typing in the box beneath it where it says 'Write something...'.

Thank you. I was looking for something that said "reply". "Write something" conjures up memories of family "fun" with the tape recorder...

Just realised I needed to be signed in to be able to see the 'Quote' and 'Write something' areas 🤦

Just to add my sincere thanks and appreciation to the team for their sterling efforts in getting the forum up and running again. You are complete and utter stars!! 🌟

Annoyingly listening to and commenting on radio 3...

the catch is that I could use an old browser on the old site which browser allowed me full control eg I could, and did, not display images unless I choose - also had options to control other features thus could tailor to my minimal and preferred format - I don't seem to have the same fine control I did with the latest firefox which annoys me greatly

Great to have the forum back and in such fine fettle. Many thanks and much appreciation to all concerned.

Same as previous forum - just that the terms have changed from "reply" and "reply with quote" only appearing when signed in to "quote" and "write something".
And yes, grateful thanks that the channels of communication are open again.

I can't pretend to understand what's been happening but I'm sure it was very hard work. Congatulations and thanks for the new board.

I agree with Frances that there is a lot of wasted space. However I think the higher level listings are now back to something more like the more compressed form we were used to.
I have noticed from other sites that there is different interaction if posts are too spaced out, particularly if there many follow on responses, and navigation can become difficult, so I hope we can avoid that here.

Well done in getting this back up and running though - good to see this veering towards a useable system.

Looking forward to getting up to speed in navigating around the new-look forum.[QUOTE] Ditto 😄 Just testing a couple of buttons on the bar above. Looks viable to me. Possibly a slightly superior platform than the previous incarnation, even. Loads well. More user friendly, maybe. Let's hope it's robust enough to cope with the demands.

Decided it was time to take a look at Facebook, but found it distinctly underwhelming. It seems to be driven mainly by visual imagery making any kind of discussion or exchange of ideas very difficult. Apart from that I was unnerved by a seemingly endless parade of faces and names of people I'd never heard of except for a couple of people from the forum I recognised and some distant relatives of my husband's who I had no idea knew my mobile number. How did they get there?!? As I don't use my real name I found it a bit creepy and decided I'd only use it if I absolutely had to.

Very grateful for the heroic effort everybody's put in on the new forum. Well done! Long may it continue 🤗
And the tune ends too soon for us all
