The article gives a few clues about the well known song, and a complete set of words. Seems also that Don Mclean managed to upset a TV interview, though he did appear on BBC last night on the One Show - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...-show-12052015. It was a different show which he managed to mess up.

I remember Vincent was set for a CSE English exam. One of the questions was what 'beautiful' meant in the song.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned (previous broadcast 2017) but on Saturday evening I chanced on a programme about "American Pie" featuring the musicians and producer describing the genesis of the album.

I have a very random and slight interest in non-classical music (often involving solo voice and nearly always acoustic instruments) but like Padraig I still have the vinyl album, for old times sake. I found the programme "Classic Albums" absorbing and enlightening, unfamiliar as I am about music production.

I chanced on it too, C S, and I too found it absorbing, mainly because of the quality of the music. I still have the LP, but though I have a very specific and considerable interest in classical and non- classical music, I don't give either the time and attention I used to. Some programmes revive the spirits and this was one of them.
