For those who might not want to look at the rather harrowing series of photos in the Daily Mail report: the Guardian reports that 'the opera singers Oleg Bryjak and Maria Radner, and her husband and baby' were among those who were killed in the crash. Dreadful news.Comment

Stephen Harrison of Deutsche Opera am Rhein [I hope I've got that right] has just been talking about Oleg Bryjak on Today. He had been singing Alberich in Barcelona. I've just dug out my programmes for the 2012 ROH Ring. Thank you for clip and reminder gurnemanz.

Karen Cargill has written a beautiful tribute to Maria Radner in the Guardian:
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."
