an interesting link came up in a different context - https://intelligence.org/rationality-ai-zombies/ - is a collection of essays on Rationality - one rule mentioned that fits much of the discussion pre black puddings, and further elaborated is "That which can be destroyed by the truth should be" - and yes the solar elipse was partly visible during later phase on this rock in Irish sea (one effect of the current moon-sun relationship is extremely high + low tides - so low in fact that the local lifeboat had to be moored out in outer harbour as its usual ramp is too far from the water!

However, whilst the UK has many problems (like any other country) I don't see 'a lack of imagination' being top the list. This country is justly famous for its ingenuity and inventiveness. Indeed immense political and constitutional change is already on the way.
Of course if one confuses 'a lack of imagination' with simple realism I can well understand the resultant disaffection!
