    Farewell Terry Pratchett

He said once that he would like to go while listening to Tallis on the iPod. I hope he managed. R.I.P.
Discworld author Sir Terry Pratchett dies at his home aged 66, eight years after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

Expected, but sad nonethless. He certainly brought much happiness (and indeed made one think - which perhaps is even more memorable).

I'm surprised it has happened so soon. He looked physically fit.

A sad loss. His wit and insight have given me much to ponder and smile about.

Terribly, terribly sad. RIP, Sir Terry - and many, many thanks.

I must admit to never been a fan of Pratchett books, but very sad at the loss of a great writer.

RIP. I am currently reading "Nation". An excellent book.

Does anyone else have any book recommendations? Quite touching tributes in The Guardian and The Independent today.

That was recommended to me today by a colleague at school. Also Night Watch. Have you read that Flay ?

                      Best Wishes,

Out of 70 novels, where should I start? Is it necessary to begin with the first, ( The Colour of Magic) or can you just dip in?

When the books first appeared, many critics dismissed them as trivial rubbish, rather as some also did with the books of Tom Sharpe. I wonder how many of those earlier reviewers have now come to praise him ? I was probably foolish to disregard him, partly because of a dislike of fantasy. Somebody once said they never read books where the characters were called Frrhggh!

He was obviously an acute observer of all of us, and helped to make the world a better place. Now, I must make up my omission, and start reading.

Just dip in, Ferret. It makes sense to start earlier if possible because you get to know certain characters, but it isn't necessary.

You have to simply accept that the world is disc-shaped with mountains in the centre and ocean to the rim where there is an everlasting waterfall. The world sits on the backs of four elephants which, in turn, stand on the back of a giant turtle called Great A'Tuin, who swims through space.

                              And a few other things....

                              The Turtle moves!
