If they paid you 4000 smackers...

What topic would you give a speech on - first having decided you were not intending to feather your own nest on the tidy earnings?

How to avoid paying tax on the £4k. After all, one has to be a 'somebody' to be offered that kind of money and only 'nobodies' pay tax...

Would Rifkind get out of bed for that paltry sum? it surely isn't a living wage for exCabinet ministers - anyway the 'sting' couldn't have happened to a more deserving pair

While I can't possibly condone the behaviour of these MPs I have to marvel at their complete ineptitude at allowing themselves to be recorded in this way.

These 'stings' are so long the stuff of politics and the media that surely either of them should have the wit to say to the person making the initial call or email ... 'I couldn't possibly discuss anything like that with you. Absolutely not, but perhaps you might like to speak to my good friend, Jeremy Agent. He might be able to see what can be done!'

... perhaps the case for constitutional reform in the UK?

Yes, this was my thought also. One wonders how many other MPs were tried and whether they did indeed show reporters the door. To be honest, I'm equally concerned about the role of the media in what is, after all, deliberate deception and entrapment. Corrupt politicians and bankers, roll on the revolution!

As for 4000 smackeroos I think I'd give a talk on recordings of Mahler's Resurrection Symphony. I do have rather a lot of them...
