There you are fhg. It was just normal interference; nothing to worry about. And nobody else remarked. So, I'll just retreat into my aforementioned dim view.

My recorder was set several days ago! (Should have mentioned it here; thanks for doing so, jc)

Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Series 3 is continuing to live up to all my hopes. McKenzie Crook and Toby Jones are the finest double act on TV right now, in my opinion, but the whole cast is a delight...added to, I have to say, by the appearance in this series of the always excellent Tim Keys as Andy's dodgy boss.

Completely agree JC. This is the best new British comedy sitcom since 2000 although I also like Count Arthur Strong. In fact, "sitcom" is a slightly misleading word for it because of its exceptionally gentle style and pace. I think it could be called unique. Roy Clarke's programmes, while steady, have always been more in line Perry, Croft and Lloyd's traditional postcard humour and Carla Lane whose writing was often fairly subtle mainly focussed on family.

What I find in "Detectorists" is not only oddball characters but a lifestyle which has a peculiar resonance beyond anything likely to be found in my immediate locality. It chimes in an uncannily real way with past encounters and experience, not that anything obvious springs to mind. The first episodes of Series 3 have benefited from less use of the f word which I've said on forums since it started didn't fit. They have now got the balance right in that respect.

Most of the outdoor settings are apparently in Suffolk although by all accounts it is supposed to be in North Essex. That hardly matters when something like Warmington-on-Sea is intended both to be specifically located and as vaguely located as anywhere can be. I wouldn't mind being in the fields with them or at the meetings in the hall. This makes a refreshing change from most television people about whom I ask "why do I let them into my house?"

The end of Episode 1 with the Unthanks was especially unexpected and affecting, drawing on the rare serious moments of earlier sitcoms, "Only Fools and Horses" and "Blackadder".

I share your enthusiasm for this series, which is quite unlike anything else that I've seen on TV for some time. It is indeed filmed in Suffolk, with Ipswich serving as London in certain scenes. I notice that Toby Jones is in the new cinema release of 'Happy End', which says probably says something for his ability and versatility as an actor.

              Detectorists

Sorry to see this end. It’s been the funniest, saddest, most moving comedy series I’ve seen in years.

I’m sure a bevy of Baftas await.

The the first two series are available on Netflix.

I was sitting in the middle of last night's programme thinking I could sit and watch this all night - made me think of all the best things of slow TV with a wonderful script. A gloriously upbeat episode to finish on.

Without wanting to give too much away, the short scene involving a ring had me in tears.

You won't be disappointed! I'm feeling seriously bereaved at the thought that it's all over.
Just to confirm: the setting is meant to be Essex, but the series was filmed in Suffolk.

As far as I can tell the 3 series (plus Christmas special) are only available to purchase and not stream as part of an Amazon Prime subscription.

My mistake - I was misled by the '4 Seasons' at the top of the page. I'm sure that all 4 series will be available to buy or stream at some point.
Our local library currently stocks series 1-3, these can be borrowed for £1 for a week.

                              There are only 3 series.

Indeed there are! Perhaps Amazon count the Christmas Special as a series?
                                Series 3 is being repeated 'back-to-back' on BBC4 on New Year's Eve (10.00 p.m. to 1.00 a.m.)
