There you are fhg. It was just normal interference; nothing to worry about. And nobody else remarked. So, I'll just retreat into my aforementioned dim view.

What I find in "Detectorists" is not only oddball characters but a lifestyle which has a peculiar resonance beyond anything likely to be found in my immediate locality. It chimes in an uncannily real way with past encounters and experience, not that anything obvious springs to mind. The first episodes of Series 3 have benefited from less use of the f word which I've said on forums since it started didn't fit. They have now got the balance right in that respect.
Most of the outdoor settings are apparently in Suffolk although by all accounts it is supposed to be in North Essex. That hardly matters when something like Warmington-on-Sea is intended both to be specifically located and as vaguely located as anywhere can be. I wouldn't mind being in the fields with them or at the meetings in the hall. This makes a refreshing change from most television people about whom I ask "why do I let them into my house?"
The end of Episode 1 with the Unthanks was especially unexpected and affecting, drawing on the rare serious moments of earlier sitcoms, "Only Fools and Horses" and "Blackadder".

I share your enthusiasm for this series, which is quite unlike anything else that I've seen on TV for some time. It is indeed filmed in Suffolk, with Ipswich serving as London in certain scenes. I notice that Toby Jones is in the new cinema release of 'Happy End', which says probably says something for his ability and versatility as an actor.

I’m sure a bevy of Baftas await.
The the first two series are available on Netflix.

Just to confirm: the setting is meant to be Essex, but the series was filmed in Suffolk.
