Many, many congratulations and best wishes, Alpie - and no small pinch of commiseration as well; Teaching can be the greatest of professions and the most frustrating (shifting from one extreme to the other at the sound of a bell) - but I have to say that the verdict of every ex-teacher I know has been that the longer they're away from the profession, the less they wish to return to it.

A very long and very happy, restful and fulfilling retirement to you.

          Best wishes EA.
I have applied for early retirement many times, always turned down (must be a victim of my own success)
Perhaps you will find time to revisit the temple of football.

            You are too valuable, ER.

Ever noticed how things are just fine when the bosses are away, but when a few workers are off it all falls apart ?
just checked my state retirement age.
            2029....although, like Catch 22.........

Wonderful, EA, congrats and have a great and fulfilling retirement! I am enjoying your 'modern recorder' thread very much, many thanks, especially as I have now inherited a complete 'chest' of Aulos and Yamaha recorders from Sopranino down to Bass since our daughter recently went up to Uni in London and says she 'doesn't have time for it'...!
However, as a beginner player I am quite fortunate 'recorder-wise' in that I have done quite a lot of work as accompanist to the formidably talented Ross Winters, ( now quite a close neighbour) so I do know what good recorder playing is supposed to 'sound like'!

The great thing about retirement is no longer having to bow to some upstart doling down meaningless or unmeetable orders - and they were by far the majority ime - or serve mammon. You are your own person at last.

Why is it assumed that "work" is this terrible thing that has to be endured?

coz for lots of people it is , with undoable jobs, on rubbish money, and numpty, sociopathic bosses who trample all over peoples lives, misuse their talents, and generally screw the world up.

                          Since you ask.

My MD should be put in prison for the havoc he has wreaked on other peoples lives.

Because it is for most people not in the "creative arts" or "creative industries".
The alienation of labour is what turned some of us into anticapitalists.

Ditto to this. I've got 4 and a half years to go and it can't come too soon. After 40 years as a wage slave I know I'm ready for it. I will retire in June 2019 and get my state pension in January 2020. Got a company pension (it'll be 29 years service) as well so should be ok when the time comes.

                              Many congratulations, EA!
