YYMMDD:hhmmss is actually an ISO standard and as you point out sorts using all wordprocessing software - even Mickeysoft can manage that

That's the Janapese way - completely logical, being in the same order as Hour, minutes, seconds - i.e. it goes from long to short. Our date sequence - short to long is logical in isolation, but the American way - middle-short-long - have they really thought about it?

"Janapese": Mitsake? Or cveler joke? You decide.

YYMMDD:hhmmss is most sensible - zooming in on the time with increasing detail.

Also good for computer indexing - everything automatically in 'time' order.

Point already made. Sorry - I'll leave ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Our brains evolved to infer meaning from patterns and they're very good at doing so. Often they're wrong (Elvis on a piece of toast, Mother Mary in a fried egg...etc.). If we had not adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1752 you'd be discussing Christmas Eve.

                          Hello there,

Year / Month/ Day is the way it's done in China too - today being 2014/12/14

Re the OP - I'm not sure whether I'd love to live in North America - but there are certainly many places particularly in the USA that I'd love to visit

(apologies to any Canadian readers out there )

                          Best Wishes,

                          Tevot
