I've been mostly impressed by the Philharmonia and the LPO when I've heard them on broadcasts. Unfortunately I rarely have the chance to hear either of them live, the last occasion being a superb concert performance of Bluebeard's Castle given by Esa Pekka-Salonen and the Philharmonia in Birmingham. Among orchestras closer to home I have a soft spot for the WNO Orchestra (especially under Lothar Koenig) who hardly ever disappoint.
