    Ultrasonics?

    Our local LIDL has an ultrasonic clearing machine for sale this week. I can see that such a device might be good for intricate jewellery, but there are also suggestions for coins and eyeware - does that mean spectacles? Finally, it is claimed to be "Ideal for Blu-ray discs, DVDs & CDs."

    My thoughts about the disc comment are that most people won't have discs that are dirty enough to warrant the purchase of such a gadget, unless perhaps they have managed to smear engine oil, honey, or tree resin on to them.

    Am I right?

    For the technically minded, a probably superfluous piece of information is that the frequency used is 46kHz.

    Ah, so fine for CDs but not necessarily for DVDs and Blu-rays, eh?
