Egg wetter free. I first came across him when I took out his just published 'Maestro Myth' book from my local library. In the early 90s you could still just about expect to find new books like that.

It was a very interesting read, but I felt that his political/cultural views got in the way a bit. I have bought most of his books.

He is always very interesting and adds value to 'our world'.

If he suddenly disappeared, he'd be sorely missed.

I don't think he claims to be an expert on all the things he writes about. He has an interesting and accessible style, with a bit of up-front provocation. Since he isn't going to change, I'd rather have him, than not.

Edit: Now you've tidied your post up, I would add that his 'Maestro Myth' would be a worthwhile read whether you know a lot about the subject, or a little.

Lebrecht deliberately over-steps the mark. We know that.

Sometimes, things will be as per the item in the link you give. But he's otherwise thought provoking and stimulating.

IMV, if Lebrecht is approached knowingly, (it doesn't take long to work out where he's going on a topic), with your caveat, then I really can't see why people shouldn't embrace him. He's very interesting and entertaining.
