It was a very interesting read, but I felt that his political/cultural views got in the way a bit. I have bought most of his books.
He is always very interesting and adds value to 'our world'.
If he suddenly disappeared, he'd be sorely missed.

Edit: Now you've tidied your post up, I would add that his 'Maestro Myth' would be a worthwhile read whether you know a lot about the subject, or a little.

It would worry me if I were unsure whether what I was reading was factually accurate, whether in a book (Maestros, Masterpieces & Madness - neatly described as 'pulped fiction') or news http://properdiscord.com/2013/01/24/...pick-with-you/, regardless of how entertaining. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. Sometimes, things will be as per the item in the link you give. But he's otherwise thought provoking and stimulating.
IMV, if Lebrecht is approached knowingly, (it doesn't take long to work out where he's going on a topic), with your caveat, then I really can't see why people shouldn't embrace him. He's very interesting and entertaining.
