my very first radio looked something like this.
Although it wasn't Russian, unlike this one, my Granny, who bought it for me, didn't really hold with buying Russian stuff, I imagine.

I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Eleven pounds and five shillings is what the total is. Thus £11.5s or in new money £11.25. Work it out yourself!

      I know I'm right!
see, that is the trouble with London....it should cost £11 and 2.5 NP, but they try to sting you for and extra 4/6.

      Shocking.

      oh the correct calculation:

      10 guineas is £10 and 10 shillings.
      half a guinea is 10/6

      total £11 and 6 (old)pence,as Mangers says, £11.025

        We have got it right!

        One guinea = £1-1s
        Ten guineas = £10-10s
        A half guinea = 10s-6d

Ergo ten and a half guineas = £11-0s-6d, or £11 + £(6/240), or or £11 + £(1/40), or £11.025 in new money, as mangerton rightly said.

£11.0.6 !!?? In old money. Some might argue it's £11.0.5. It didn't correlate perfectly.

Rubbish! £11.025 is nonsense in new money, or old. You will never see a price written like that. Take the pound sign away and the arithmetic is ok. That's all.

            Yer wrong, don.

A tranny from Granny then! Actually our first portable was one Dad put together from Heathkit - anyone remember the company?

Look, I started this thread, so I'm allowed a shilling's leeway, plus or minus, AND I get to choose how prices are written.

GBPs seems to becoming more common parlance - it was probably better when LSD was around.
