    100 Greatest......

Lists seem to have an attraction that is almost impossible to resist. I assume they are much beloved of the Sunday papers still.....50 best walks nowhere near you, 50 greatest ferry trips, that sort of thing.

Anyway, I happened upon this site the other day, which has plenty of material to play with of that sort.

Links to all DigitalDreamDoor.com greatest music lists, music information pages, articles, and album reviews.

There might be some interesting things missing, or strangely ordered, and something to play with over the sunday morning coffee.

I thought Reich and Carter outside the top 50 C20 composers might ruffle a few feathers, for instance.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Some of those lists are wrong.

Well I ain't no expert saint, and I might have missed them in there, but 100 greatest R'n'B with no James Carr and no Candi Staton seems blatantly wrong to me.

            Nice...hadn't heard that before.
The American focus in the 100 Greatest Folk Music Artists list makes it really narrow and pretty thoughtless and is largely folk artists from a 60s/70s US/UK focus. I mean I'd hardly describe Neil Young as folk. An for example there's no Aly Bain, no Carthys and no Chris Wood, no Iarla and nothing from continental Europe or beyond...I suppose it's just a bit of fun, ts.

The Sound are really worth checking out,Iif you like that sort of thing, JC. One of the best live bands I ever saw, and some wonderful LPs.

Yeah, the lists are nonsense really, as we know. Their main use, if there is one, is as a short cut where ones knowledge is very limited.

The lists being wrong is the whole point, and what makes them fun.
if you think they are fun.

                  Which not everybody does....!!

The important thing is not to take them too seriously - the statistical basis of most of them is decidedly dodgy - analysis of everybody's top five cannot yield a top 50!

....But they got the top Prog album right.

Got to say I never thought of The Strawbs as Prog Rock - Folk Rock surely!

...and whilst the Beatles music no doubt progressed I never thought of them as a Prog Rock group!
