Yep....big freeze 10 years old running down the huge piles of gutter drifts in my duffle coat and lovely bright yellow scarf....first lad with long trousers in my year, so no chaps on knees....[cough ahem splutter in fact no chaps allowed on any part of my body]....

when i was a nipper i threw an orange at a car and the toff driving it chased me all down our street ..... caught me and gave me a reasoned talking to, not a thumping .... but he had just driven through our game of footie i told him ... the road was for cars not games he said .... that's what you think i yelled back as i ran off again .... yep it was war for the street all right eh .....



in 47 it must have been this cold [-4 today] but there were outside sinks and loos on each landing of the concrete staircases, no idea how our mother kept us warm [had to hump coal upstairs for the one fireplace]
