saly, thanks for your 4th of July wishes! We didn't see any parades as aka c de j did in Arizona but had a nice relaxing day well away from the crowds! As described in an earlier post, we went for that nice drive in the country, stopped at a local watering-hole on the way back for some liquid refreshment and then sat back and relaxed for the rest of the day. Newport gets insanely busy and crowded at this time of year. Tennis week at the Newport Casino with the APT tournament (only one on grass courts in this country.) Tennis at the Casino is really quite enjoyable but the traffic and parking problems are not. After tennis week is finished, the Newport Music Festival begins (classical music), then the Newport Folk Festival, and the Newport Jazz Festival. Busy, busy, busy. Well this is a tourist town so we have to make hay while the sun shines! BTW I would love to go for a ride with you around the countryside. I think you would enjoy Tiverton and Little Compton!

AkaC deJ: I hope you survived the dust of Arizona! That was quite a dust storm. We don't have a 4th of July parade in Newport, but neighboring Bristol has one that's been held every year since 1783! Best wishes, marthe

Calum--Poor you, to have been caught in that horrid Phoenix dust storm. Once, as young ignoramuses, we tried to travel through a desert dust storm on one of our early trips to Sedona. Our brand new sports car was completely sand-blasted in front. We had to replace the windshield and repaint the car.

The roads leading to and out of Sedona are magnets for sports car clubs and also for car makers road testing new models. More than once we have been standing along Sedona's main street when a group of sports cars rumbled through. Our most recent sighting was a group of Morgans with British plates!

Rain has stopped at last but it is certainly windy, if not stormy here. Gales and leaves dropping everywhere. What a weird summer.

Oh I don't know S-A, they may well Rock. May one ask if you have made plans to meet up with old friends? No, one may not. Sorry.

One may, saly .... but the impression so far is that "old friends" appear to be more interested in making "new friends", as of now.

Hmpfh! It would indeed appear that two certain individuals need to check their private email accounts.

                    See you soon!

Oh dear...I'm not in the doghouse again, am I? Well just in case, I sent it along with a different one, so DOUBLE there!
For what it's worth, I'm still looking for a private, invite-only blog space that's well hidden from search engines, message-board fussbudgets, and all my cercopithecine acquaintances from the queue.

                            Stay tuned!

A: Ha! Yep, I'd say we're definitely worth a National Geographic special. In fact, I'm sure if you gave this little fellow a Proms t-shirt and a plastic wine glass, you'd scarcely know the difference. You have to hand it to them, though-- they certainly know how to run an orderly queue!

                                Er...nevermind. Back under my rock.
