Have cooked myself a sort of bread pudding with fruit, brown sugar, bread and eggs to see me through the afternoon. I shan't appreciate the tennis if too hungry. Who do you want to win?

Anton, I remember years ago being driven to Suffolk to stay with cousins. We arrived, sat down and watched McEnroe and Connors play the final, Sandwiches were made, all in silence and the visit didn't begin until the tennis was over. As you say, seems like yesterday.

Greeting all insomniacs. Very hot humid night and yes,it's July and expected. This thread seems to be running out of steam at last. Where's marthe and the others?

Hope the Proms bring us all together again with music the glue that holds us together, especially daily live performances.

Wasn't it hot and airless last night! With last night came the 2nd in a row of asthma attacks. At the moment not too bad, but certainly the air hasn't helped, methinks?

Wish you better BBM. That's a horrible affliction. I had a good friend who had dreadful asthma so I know what it's like. Raining a little here now so hope itclears the humidity.

well no asthma but spent the weekend in Sedona (4,500ft) and Flagstaff (6,900ft) and this old smoker had trouble with the thin air .... temperatures mostly in the nineties in old money ... back in Phoenix it is richer air but 102F ..... hit 118 while i was in the high sierra .... looking forward to heavy rain and 18C on return to UK!

I do hope you enjoyed Sedona and Flag (as it's known here). They're very different from each other, aren't they? Flag is an old Wild West sort of town while Sedona is artsy, dominated by those scenic red rocks, the Oak Creek, and the limestone cliffs of the Mogollon Rim towering over the area at the 7000-ft. level. The seventeen-mile drive up the Oak Creek Canyon with its stunning red-rock vistas and pine and juniper woods is one of the most scenic in Arizona. I've been visiting Sedona once or twice a year since 1969; it's a favorite driving destination, though the 450-mile distance from my home may strike you in the UK as more than a hop, skip and jump away!

A fair bit of rain here, starting early evening. Should be a cool night. Pooch frolicked outside and came in very wet, so had to chase her and dry her down.

Hi saly and all: I'm still here! I've just been a busy working girl and am now finishing my weekend which, this summer, is Monday and Tuesday. Yesterday was the national holiday (4th of July/Independence Day...whatever you chose to call it) so lots of barbecues, parades, fireworks etc. We celebrated by taking the MG for a long drive in the country out to Tiverton and Little Compton, RI. Very nice country roads, lovely fields, stone walls covered with wild roses, elder in bloom. High summer is here. The weather has been sunny and dry with no humidity for a change. Today was catch-up day for gardening and household chores. Back to work tomorrow. I'm looking forward to listening to the Proms on-line. I hope all is well in the green and pleasant land!

yep Estelle we drove that road ...

... the dust storm last night was truly HUGE but lacked the usual rainfall after despite a major electrical storm ... dust filled air and substantial covering of desert dust all over town, the pools, in every yard, are mud baths!

the 4th July parade in Flagstaff took two hours to pass us, every commercial vehicle in N Arizona must have been there ... the parade started however, with a group of vintage Morris Minors!
