The pancake clouds are starting to break up - with lighter winds today maybe the sunshine will raise the temperatures a bit higher than the 11 C maximum of yesterday, which wiould not have been out-of-the-ordinary in January.

It's about 15C here today. Bright sunshine. Rather cold and windy, as we went Littlehampton today, about an hour's drive for us.

Yes - similar temperatures in this bit of the Pennines; AND the icy edge on the wind has dropped, so we can feel the warmth at last. (Managed to get a couple of hours of much-needed weeding done in the garden - and there were two frogs watching me from the pond!)

Yes BBM - quite a thundery-looking sky developing here now. All it needs is for a trigger, and the whole lot will blast off; but that's a big "if", despite the barometric fall and the general "feel" of the air. I prefer this kind of weather to last week's chill!

You keep that thundery stuff down in the SE postcodes please.

Indeed yes, SA. I think there's been a shift in the wind and or temp, because there is now a definite chill in the air. just had a few drops of rain but that's about all.

Thunderstorms are really kicking off now in the vicinities of Belgium/NE France and SE Wales/Gloucestershire.

Weather [sic] or not they will come our way is still an open question, but for anyone interested in storm tracking, where the action is taking place can be found by clicking on this website. Lightning flashes are shown actually happening in bright red circles, and where they have taken place in the past hour in yellow:

See lightning strikes in real time across the planet. Free access to maps of former thunderstorms. By Blitzortung.org and contributors.

Just click on any part of the map for enlargement, and slide the cursor to wherever you want to find out, worldwide. Whoever organises this must have access to a network of radars which has much of the world covered, although parts of Africa, S America and the Indian subcontinent aren't as yet. I reckon its worth making a note of the URL for whenever you want to dip in.

Thanks SA or the link. A few short showers yesterday but today rather prolonged. www.theweatherchannel.com has said in my area of AM showers. So I am hoping that it will be! Much need rain though, so thank goodness!

Hope you're recovering now from your "marrowing" experience, BBM! Yes, it was the wrmest day so far this year today here - 24 degrees - warm enough to sit outside in T-shirt and shorts despite it being cloudy. Looking at tomorrow's charts and I'm wondering if we could be in for a really big thunderstorm as the cooler air swings in from the west, tomorrow evening, though the forecasters are just talking of heavy rain with a slight possibility of thunder.

Huge puddles forming on the Common, brown water everywhere, dog in her aqueous element.

I have a feeling (backed up by various apps) that we are in for a good soaking.

                                Love the instant lightning!
