After a dreech start, a truly lovely slow, silvery gold sunset oop 'ere.
        Made up for yesterday!

PS Is it time for a Stormy Weather 2 thread?

Well, yr.no has got it more or less right for opp 'ere. Mix of cloud, spits and spots, and brief bits of sun.
            BUT
must be rough out to sea for there to be so many gulls circling for pickings even this far up.

              Gulls will be gulls!

Sunny intervals here, with a lot of puffy cumulus clouds denoting the risk of showers in the forecast, and the murk of several days departed - but only for a while: as from tomorrow we're in for a week and a half or so of very cold easterlies - might even see a few snow flakes. Thank god I got my central heating sorted at last!

@S_A - I know you keep an expert eye on the weather, but am wondering if there might be anything of interest to you on this course:
Explore the physical processes behind the weather to understand why it is rainy, windy or sometimes even sunny in this online course from the University of Reading.

Maybe, but probably not, Pianorak. I never seem to have a spare moment these days - one of the joys of retirement, eh! Others may be interested though, so many thanks for providing that link.

Wonderful afternoon in central London, mild, almost no wind, bright sunshine - perfect for an hour or so on the bicycle....

Lots of puffed-up pigeons paying court to slightly flustered-looking females, tons of green crocus / snowdrop shoots appearing.

But a week or so of something rather different coming up it seems... and a very odd and somewhat foreboding diffuse orange light flooding the sky and the streets just at the moment...

Back illumination of the retreating frontal cloud, Cali: one always gets impressive sunsets when the sun's rays catch the undersides of altocumulus and cirrus clouds when they are north-south aligned, especially with lower cumulus clouds, or better still cumulonimbus in silhouette. The front is expected to be pushed back by that easterly airflow I mentioned, re-crossing the country from the east as a weakened feature tonight.

Didn't know you'd worked in that side of the movie industry, S_A !

I knew I'd come across that expression somewhere...

Count yourself lucky; just cycled home in hail!
Cleared up a bit now though.
