During my daily 6.00am walk along the exposed esplanade on the estuary coast this morning I really struggled walking west with the strong wind blowing in from the Irish Sea. Walking back due east was easy being wind assisted.

Heading back to the outback,it is lovely clear blue skies over Woking.....
There are some concerns about the low predicted to cross the south and East Anglia on Sunday. A similar feature brought blizzards to N Wales and the W Midlands back in 1985, mentioned as a separate thread on this (rather good) weather site I linked earlier.

I have Radio 3 on my headphones which at 6.30am switches from 'Throught the Night' to the 'Breakfast' programme. This usually eases the physical pain of heavy exercise. Although I am rather fed up of being fed a regular diet at that time of the morning of Baroque and early Classical music, oboe and flute concertos a speciality, without much in the way of late-Romantic music. Someone must have decided!Last edited by Stanfordian; 20-11-16, 10:12.

I'd be at work at that time Stan! :)
After the awful day yesterday, I think today will be calmer. Going to have to go to Sainsbury's today, have my mother and son round for dinner tomorrow, so will be getting the ingredients ready, with MrsBBM , for the meal tomorrow evening!! MrsBBM is a retired Head Chef. A rather nice winter wamer! :)Don’t cry for me

Looks like a good start to the day, down hereabouts! I think we may have some rough weather later. MrsBBM is in the kitchen at the moment creating a rather nice meal for this evening's dinner, where my mother and son are coming round for a winter warmer!Don’t cry for me

Sky still leaden and a very damp cold 5 C as I went for my half hour constitutional before it got dark just now. Surprising how many leaves remain to fall. I'm more worried if anything about tonight and tomorrow: another inch of rain expected will cause floooding in low-lying areas by Tuesday.
I got drenched walking back to the station after the footy last night.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Yep, oop 'ere in't N.Pennines it is well ROARING, blustering, and absolutely shovelling it down. Wind speed 60mph+, and I am slightly sheltered from the fierce NE-aster by a big range of fells no more than 100 metres away. On the tops, lots of snow, temp down to 3C. Looks like a VERY rough night ahead.
Desmond? Dec 5th/ 6th last year? Same season. We're not far off that now.

The A629 - a 23-mile stretch of road connecting me to Huddersfield; and back - normally. Two hours of congestion tonight, together with floodings* making a ten-mile detour necessary, made for a miserable way to spend an evening. This on top of having to come away from the Festival three hours earlier than I'd planned because the rain from above and the games of the traffic driving through puddles and drenching pedestrians from below meant that I was literally soaked to the skin in the bitterly cold outdoors. I couldn't imagine sitting through another three hours as I was. The plan was to be home in time for University Challenge - instead, I got in in time for the Missing Vowels round of Only Connect.
* - between Illingworth and Denholme, the road was blocked by an impromptu lake, in the middle of which was a car, up to its radiator in water; next to which was a really browned-off-looking chap shouting abuse into his mobile.
Rumour has it that "they" wish to "transfer" hospital facilities from Huddersfield to Halifax - probably safer to have a life-threatening emergency after 8:30 in the evenings in Calderdale!Numquam Satis!
