Another dreadful day up here. Very cloudy, heavy showers and a punishing wind. Temps nominally 17 degrees but that wind was enough to give me white finger syndrome, something I just never get in July. No sunshine whatever. People will be getting vitamin D deficiency with this lack of sunshine. There already seems a general despondency about.

Word was that it was going to get much warmer at the weekend but the forecasters are backing away from this by the hour.

Phew! What a scorcher! 34 degrees here today and, as I type, it's a stonking 27 degrees indoors. I rather like these sticky summer nights and wish the weather people would stop labelling them as 'uncomfortable'. Keep 'em coming, I say.

Was out in BBM territory on Sunday. Lovely day in Brighton but why is so much of the seafront under re-construction in the summer months? Can't it be done out of season?
        It created a poor impression.

Well I really am surprised that no one has come on here to register that this has been the hottest day of the year. 32 C in the centre of Town, only 29 here, just 6 miles away, and lots of small children splashing around in an inflatable paddling pool all afternoon in brilliant hot sunshine - "Justa like Eeeetaleee!" as my next-doors exclaimed - tempered by a noticeable warm breeze, with none of the "high humidity" we'd been forewarned of.

            Too ryddu hot to type!

Spent a lovely day with friends walking by the river and canal in Hebden Bridge - and it actually felt like Summer for the first time this year (my first ice cream of the year in celebration).

The downside was that it was a particularly muggy and uncomfortable night trying to sleep. More pleasantly warm, but with thunder already this morning, and downpours forecast for most of today.

Quite pleasant here now with a gentle westerly and barely a cloud, and much more comfortable than yesterday, which personally I found unbearable - although the temperature's now nearly reached 27 C.

The south east missed last night's and this morning's intense thunderstorms, now mostly out in the N Sea, and there are some amazing, apocalyptic-looking pictures posted on Twitter of elevated thunder clouds, short bits of lightning footage, mainly from Northumbria and the Borders region. Not sure how to do the links, sorry.

This looks likely to be the last of any extreme heat here for the forseeable future, though with some heat retention temperatures everywhere are expected to continue to be a few degrees above the normal.

Not a breath of wind, nor even a shaft of sunshine here today! At least it was more comfortable than yesterday (28 C) as I pedalled my way to Cadogan Hall for some lunchtime piano jazz, sat in a square off Kings Road near the obamas eating a trendy fair trade sourced sarnie among maids in Chelsea whilst drinking a "small" (i.e. half a pint) cardboard beaker of black coffee, before pedalling back via Clapham Common, where I stopped once more to indulge in a mocca ice cone outside S London's best ice cream parlour.

                    Hot, but not bothered.

A perfect summer's day here both yesterday and today. light breeze, lots of sun and little cloud. Absolutely ideal conditions. The daily predicted rain, cloud and cooler temperatures have simply not materialised and the BBC forecast fails to match the reality. It's remained at a reasonably constant 25 - 28 degrees here for most of the past week, peaking at 34 degrees on Wednesday. It remains pretty stifling indoors, currently at 25.6 degrees in my listening room.

The summer seems to have redeemed itself just at the point where it looked a complete write off.

I noted a branch move just now, but it was just a wood pigeon taking off - lucky fella (?) creating its own chill factor. Nothing's been moving here for a good 3 days now - I don't mind heat, as long as it's not too humid and the air is moving, which it did on that hottest day last week. I've managed to keep indoor temperatures down to the low 20s by judiciously opening windows only late at night and swinging doors to try and get some circulation, and closing everything by about ten am; but the heat in here relentlesly creeps up even when it stays the same outside.

They were very quiet and just went ahead and did the job! Very happy BBNM and MrsBBM, especially! On a lovely sunny day too! :)
