It seems traditional by now for June to be a mostly unsettled month with the emphasis on heavy rain. I certainly don't remember it being like this in years gone by when June was so often the perfect summer month and usually when we went on family holidays as children but the last dozen or so have been absolutely dire. I really, really hope that this isn't the pattern once again for yet another hopeless summer!

Is that a cue for a bit of poetry?

(it's been a bit wet here, but no Thor)

Pouring rain here again today, and as I'm starting my annual hols today, no doubt it will continue for the next fortnight. I have made no plans. I thought of going to the far north for a few days, but if this weather continues I'll go for a cruise, leaving the boat at the front door each night.

I heard that June could be a washout. MSN news, I think.

Oh June, where hast thou flame gone to?

While not completely dry, it's going to be considerably better next week, and a bit warmer, once we've got this stagnant pool of thundery weather out of the way, which should be by about lunchtime tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I'm going to enjoy it!

Absolutely shovelling it down oop 'ere, driven by a blustery westerly, fells pretty well invisible in swirling clouds. Temp down to 9C, sheep scattering, streets swept of tourists.

Don't laugh, coming eastward overnight, but here very low rivers / becks here are swollen and rushing. We've got a tad jumpy 'ere about such rain and possibility of flooding.

A very dreary morning, but our efforts yesterday weeding the Rose Garden in Palmerston Park showed that the ground was compacted hard and really needed moisture. It will get plenty today...

                      Well...........[whispers] cloud / sun / breeze / warmth / washing on't'line.

By the way, all, if you want a fine weather station for decent, VERY accurate forecasts, I was surprised by this: http://www.yr.no/
Does it in Norwegian first, but you can easily get translation. Many major cities in UK covered as well as Europe etc.

                          On the Continent.

Meanwhile, here it's 21 C, and at 87% humidity, not surprisingly feels like a sauna. A bad day on which to choose to do the insides of all my windows!
