Unbelievably cold for last week in April! The temperature here has not risen above 8 degrees and a frost has been forecast for tonight with sleet and snow possible on higher ground. We've already had a few hefty showers during the day making it feel even colder and it feels more January than coming up to May. Heating well on and Berghaus and woolly hat are the order of the day round here. I'm reading that Bournemouth, of all places, had heavy snow in its town centre midway through this morning! I was hit by a sudden hailstorm while cycling to Herne Hill this morning. Only petits pois-sized hail but even at that size it don't 'arf sting and make the eyes water if it hits you on the eyeball! On the way back a loud bump of thunder sounded out from a very black cloud to the northeast. Checking the live lightning map I see the strike was over Woolwich - must have been a strong stroke to have given thunder as loud all this distance away!
